Play Safe & Drive Safe
Posted By: Admin
Thursday, January 19, 2012

The WRAHL has strict rules regarding the consumption of alcohol on arena property. This is primarily done to ensure our participants are following the bylaws set by the City of Calgary. However, we also want to make sure our players are safe not only on the ice but off of it.

The Government of Alberta has passed tougher drinking and driving laws that will discourage this behaviour and encourage greater personal responsibility when behind the wheel.

Quick facts:

  • 22% of drivers involved in fatal collisions have consumed some alcohol.
  • 96 deaths and 1,384 injuries occurred in alcohol-related collisions in 2010.

Obtain more information here.

Play safe and drive safe.

Are you fit to play?

Update: Check out the news article posted by the Calgary Herald. "Keep your ticker on the ice" by Dr. Tom Keenan.

The WRAHL wants to remind players that hockey is one of the best sports on earth, and it is also one of the most demanding on your body. The physical toll that is placed on your heart, muscles and body is extraordinary and should be watched on a regular basis.

We all like to deny that anything could happen to us. We all feel that we are either in perfect shape, not old enough, or eat right so there is no way we can suffer an injury or a medical emergency. Let’s give our heads a shake and realize, that as we get older (everyone is getting older!) we become at a greater risk of suffering an injury or having a heart attack/stroke. Do it for yourself, find your limits, learn how to better prepare before a game to avoid suffering from anything!

Make sure that recreational hockey is NOT your only form of exercise.
